Greg Atkinson, previously of Kellogg Brown and Root – Director, Energy Solutions
Greg, aka “Ako” as he's known by friends, has been a PCWA member just shy of 2 years, although he has attended numerous events prior to joining, so he has been a big supporter of the Petroleum Club of WA for quite some time.
Greg loves being a part of PCWA as he thinks “it gives WA business and people a platform to connect with global and domestic energy industry leaders. PCWA does a great job in promoting the industry to our community through programs like
the Next Generation Schools Program."
Greg is currently seeking a new career opportunity, he has been in the resources industry for over 20 years and he would be a very valuable asset to any company lucky enough to work with him. Ideally, he would like to fit into a business leadership role where he can influence business strategy, growth and development of the company’s people.
"I would like to work for a company that is authentic, has grit and seeks to nurture and grow talent through diversity and investing in the value of its people. A company that I have shared values with that strives to make a positive change for a
better world."
Greg started his career working in Bunbury a couple of hours south of Perth, as an electrician doing a lot of niche electrical design and construction in the industrial and mining sector, where he gained a lot of practical experience. His career progressed into commissioning several mining projects, followed by a four-year stint in London in commercial construction, before returning to Perth to complete his MBA at Curtin University.
In 2005 he joined the team at KBR as a Contracts Manager across several mining and infrastructure projects, later becoming the Project Manager for several major mining projects including Hope Downs 4, "my first big break, being responsible for the delivery of a multibillion-dollar project for Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting."
During this time, Greg returned to university to complete his Master of Science to further his professional development. It was after this, he took the plunge as a Commercial Director on the $15 billion dollar, Ichthys Onshore LNG Project, "Ichthys was an incredible experience and an immersion into international business and finance beyond anything I could have ever anticipated. The cultural experience I gained from working with our great Japanese partners (JGC & Chiyoda), plus our Japanese and French customers (INPEX and Total) and then our fabrication partners in China, Thailand and the Philippines not to mention our suppliers around the world and of course the Larrakia people of Darwin - it was incredible. I was fortunate to experience firsthand just how many people’s lives around the world we touch along the way."
Over his 15 years with KBR, Greg took on roles as Regional Director for both Australia and APAC, responsible for the profit and loss and leading the strategic growth of KBR’s energy business through pursuits such as Woodside Browse, Shell Crux and the development of an industrial services business with my great friends at Civmec.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities KBR gave me and the relationships I built along the way, but it’s now time to reset, refresh and use that experience to shape the next chapter in my career."
