Does 1995 feel like just yesterday or a lifetime ago?
22 years ago the World Trade Organization was formed; South Africa beat New Zealand to win the Rugby World Cup; Carlton won the AFL premiership in front of 93 thousand spectators at the MCG; eBay went live, and after eight not-so-glorious seasons the last episode of Full House aired.
1995 was also the year that David Hernandez signed up to become a Petroleum Club member.
"In 1995 I was retrenched and decided to start my own consulting company," said Hernandez who first joined the Club to socialise and network with other professionals in the industry and learn from top-quality presentations given by expert speakers.
“From then until present day, I’ve worked as a Production Engineer, Production Technologist, Drilling Engineer, Well Test Engineer, Well Intervention Engineer, Senior Completions Engineer, Well Control Specialist, Day/Night Company Man and Course Instructor in Production Operations.”
The Texas A&I University graduate migrated to Australia as part of the business migration program in 1988.
“I arrived with no job, no friends, no money and a one-way ticket. I landed my first oilfield job working as a Production Operator for Oilserv in Moomba, South Australia. After that, I went to work for WAPET as a Production and Field Engineer,” reminisced the 39-year oil and gas veteran.
David has written manuals on Field Development Planning, Completion Operations, Completion Planning, Reservoir Modeling, Production, Economics, Wire Line Operations, Production Hoist Operations, Workshop Operations and Wellhead Installation and Maintenance.
“I’ve also written three training modules for an Introduction to Petroleum Business course.
“Nowadays I am sitting in the same boat as many others, searching for my next opportunity. If anyone asks I like to say I am semi-retired, as it sounds better than unemployed," laughs Hernandez.
David enjoys his spare time playing golf, mountain biking and enjoying a few quiet beverages with his mates.
