Otavio Maia Guedes, Nihar – Maintenance and Reliability Engineer
Otavio began his journey in the resources industry after obtaining his degree in mechanical engineering at Curtin University and moving to Tom Price to work for metal fabrication company, Savannah Engineers.
He stayed in the Pilbara for a year and a half before deciding to challenge himself in Perth, joining engineering consultant Nihar as a maintenance and reliability engineer; a role which introduced him to the oil and gas industry.
Three and a half years later, and Otavio has managed multiple projects for tier-one companies in the industry focused on asset and maintenance strategy optimisation as a maintenance and reliability engineer, analysing License to Operate requirements to achieve peak asset performance.
“Nihar is an asset management consultancy, comprising of various multi-discipline engineers specialised in maintenance and operations,” Otavio said. “It provides cradle-to-grave solutions throughout the asset lifecycle, optimising performance and maximising productivity.”
Otavio was introduced to the Petroleum Club Young Professionals two years ago and is now a committee member, helping to mentor graduates in the oil and gas industry.
“I like the equal opportunity PCWA offers for members of all ages, gender, background and experience to engage and network with people within the same industry or aspiring to enter the industry,” he said.
When not at work, Otavio enjoys some of the more adrenaline-inducing and active hobbies, including diving, snowboarding, soccer, and cycling. “Whenever possible I like to get away for snowboarding trips, as well as visiting Brazil to see my extended family,” he said.
He has participated in multiple charity cycling and running events, and has raised money for cancer, multiple sclerosis, and men’s health.
Otavio also enjoys spending time with his parents and his older sister and is proud to have recently become a first-time uncle to little Abraham.
