Steve Bennett - Rockwell Automation
Steve Bennett, Business Development Manager at Rockwell Automation, brings a wealth of experience and energy to the world of industrial automation. With a diverse background spanning over 20 years in electrical power distribution, blue-collar recruitment, and industrial automation and control, Steve's journey is a testament to his resilience and adaptability in the ever-changing landscape of the industry.
Since 2018, Steve has been an active member of the Energy Club WA. He finds great enjoyment in attending industry events, not only for the knowledge gained but also for the opportunity to network and connect with professionals from various sectors. As Steve states, "I believe we can all help each other in some shape or form, whether directly or indirectly through respective contacts."
Although Steve has never worked directly for an Energy/O&G business, his involvement as a supplier and consultant has provided him with a deep understanding of the industry.
Reflecting on his work history, he shares, "Dealing with a number of industries from building, mining, O&G, fabrication gave me a greater insight on how things go together and what each trade did."
This diverse experience has made him appreciate the interconnectedness of different trades and roles.
Recently joining Rockwell Automation, Steve feels a sense of familiarity as he walks through the doors through which he left seven years ago. He describes Rockwell Automation as "the largest company in the world that is dedicated to industrial automation and information".
As the Business Development Manager - Large Project Pursuit, Steve’s role requires him to be at the forefront of new project developments and to understand the strategy and business outcomes required at the early stages of engagement."
Among the projects Steve is currently involved in, one notable endeavour is a large-scale salt project with construction spanning the next two to three years.
Speaking about his favourite projects, he recalls, "An old favourite project for me was when I was on the tools in 1996 and 1997, I spent two six-month stints on Rottnest Island upgrading the Bathurst Point dwellings and then Kingston Barracks." These projects not only involved electrical work but also required collaboration with various trades.
Steve's achievements extend beyond the professional realm. He takes immense pride in the fact that he has enjoyed an exciting rewarding career from leaving the tools as an electrician to pursue a career in business development and leadership spanning over 20 plus years. "I have always challenged myself to succeed in the roles that I have held and always backed myself to try different roles,” he said. Additionally, being a father to his two teenage boys is a significant source of pride and inspiration.
When it comes to motivation and influence, Steve emphasises the importance of working with a great team. He believes that "if you enjoy the people you work with, that's all the influence you need to succeed.”
Outside of work, Steve indulges in various hobbies such as playing the drums to Metallica, fishing on his boat, and exploring his passion for photography. He also finds time for reading, riding, and running.
