Sonya Liddle - Founder and Principal, Sun North Consulting
Sonya Liddle has been in the energy industry for two decades.
As the founder and principal at Sun North Consulting, she partners with organisations to create and implement strategic workplace environments that foster innovation, collaboration, and growth.
Sonya has held senior executive positions across numerous industries, including employment and training, council governance and primary healthcare, and the resources sector.
She has implemented national Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and ESG strategies which have consistently resulted in improvements in organisational performance. She now enjoys working with clients to create better ways of working.
Sonya drafted and implemented the first multi-union Enterprise Bargaining Agreement covering five operational maritime sectors while working as General Manager and later Chief Executive Officer of Aboriginal Maritime Pty Ltd, a majority Indigenous-owned marine services provider.
Sonya has been on the Energy Club WA Board of Governors for two years and has chaired the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Committee for three years. She is passionate about creating inclusive environments and hopes to use her skills to benefit ECWA, its Board, and its members.
“I would love to see us ensure that anyone and everyone feels welcome at our events, creating different supports and initiatives to achieve this. We have already made a start on this, and it has been incredibly well received,” Sonya said.
These initiatives include increasing traditional diversity pillars within the membership and creating events where people attending alone or for the first time feel welcomed. Sonya is also excited to engage with different parts of the energy sector and ensure the sustainability and future growth of the Next Gen program.
Sonya enjoys the Energy Club WA for its people. Despite being someone who traditionally networks out of necessity rather than enjoyment, she finds fun at the events.
“Our Board and members genuinely enjoy talking, connecting and sharing ideas and that’s a really exciting place to be,” she said.
She encourages members to engage with the D&I Committee. “We do have a new D&I strategy to be released this year but it’s an ever-evolving landscape and we know that without honest feedback from our members we won’t be doing everything we can in this space.”
In her spare time, Sonya enjoys horse riding, specifically dressage and showjumping. She competes as much as she can; with four horses currently in full work plus three others at home.
