2022 Student Expo Day
We are continuing to liaise with other regional schools in the Kimberley and Pilbara region and have also had some interest from Northam Senior High School in the Wheatbelt. Along with the regional school expansion, the program continues to gather interest from other metro-based schools, with many already set to sign up for the 2023 program.
The competitive component of the 2022 program is Student Expo Day. This will be held at Edith Cowan University Joondalup this coming Friday, 25th November and is the program highlight.
The expo will be open to all students who have shown a keen interest in the Energy Industry. We once again have over 300 students participating, which goes to show the impact the program is having on the next generation. The Expo Day gives students an insight into campus life and the amazing facilities ECU has to offer.
We work with industry supporters who provide some amazing industry-related activities and games for students to complete. Students spend the day rotating between the exhibits to generate points through the completion of each industry-related activity, task and various quizzes. The groups that accumulate the most points throughout the day take out the prizes.
All students are invited to attend, forming groups of 5-6 to work as a team to gather points. This is designed to generate interest and facilitate the question-and-answer process between students and industry representatives.
EXHIBITS OVER THE YEARS
VR Experiences, Coding an Ozobot, PPE, Magnetics game, NDT Plates, Cuttlefish analysis, Industry Quizzes, 3D Models with a Carbon Footprint talk, Safety Shower Assembly, Robotic Arms, Permeability through different media, Density Measurement, Small ROVs, Exploration Game, Kerplunk, Mimic Subsea Development, and Robotic Crawlers.
PRIZES
The top performing students at the student expo day will receive some amazing industry prizes. Thank you to our 2022 program prize sponsors for the fantastic prizes available;
First Prize: Helicopter Underwater Escape Training proudly sponsored by ERGT
Participants will develop hands-on experience training in submerged helicopter simulators and learn essential sea survival techniques including life jackets and life raft training. The training is designed to heighten safety procedures, danger awareness and operational standards for flights over or near water.
Second Prize: Day Sail on the Leeuwin proudly sponsored by ELECT
Experience the thrill and adrenaline of sailing on Australia’s largest ocean-going sail-training tall ship, the STS Leeuwin II. Students will help the crew haul the lines, take the helm, and even try some climbing aloft.
Third Prize: Ropes Training proudly sponsored by VERTECH GROUP
Rope access is regarded as the safest and most dynamic method of working at heights. Here you’ll learn how to use ropes and associated equipment to gain
access to work areas that are hard to reach! Although the prize is physically demanding, it’s a fun day out and will give students an idea of the skills
required on-site.
The Next Generation Schools Program is the success that it is due to the ongoing support from our industry.
We encourage you to contact our office if you have the time and resources available to commit to the development of the program. This can be by way of sponsorship, mentoring, interactive displays, or event volunteering to assist in the coordination of the program itself.
