Paul Browne – Country Manager, Technip Energies
Paul began his journey in the energy industry 25 years ago as a cost controller for Coflexip Stena Offshore.
Born in South Africa, he studied economics and law before moving to London and working in a merchant bank. Upon arriving in Australia in the mid-90s, Paul joined Coflexip and has stayed with the company through its evolution.
“I progressed through a number of commercial roles both in Australia and internationally for Technip, leading to my current role as Country Manager and Director for Technip Energies in Australia,” he said.
“I have been lucky to work for a company that offers experience in subsea construction, subsea products, onshore facilities and offshore facilities with a truly global footprint and now with a clear and focused vision to accelerate the transition to clean energy.”
Paul said Technip Energies’ position as a leader in LNG, hydrogen, sustainable chemistry and CO² management has helped put it in a position to lead the energy transition.
Technip Energies is engaged in projects including the ongoing engineering services for FLNG, brownfield modifications to offshore platforms, and early engineering for new ammonia and hydrogen facilities in the early development stages.
Paul enjoys the ability to work on pioneering projects across the world with Technip Energies.
“I have been lucky enough to work on amazing pioneering projects such as the Laminaria and Corallina development, the first deepwater spar for Malaysia, a large modular nickel mine in New Caledonia, a gas project in New Zealand as an integrated EPC including all the subsea, offshore facilities, pipelines and the onshore gas plant, and of course the amazing FLNG project we have here in Australia,” he said.
Paul has been a member of the Energy Club of WA (formerly Petroleum Club of WA) for the past nine years, appreciating the opportunity to meet old colleagues, people he has worked with over the past 25 years, and people new to the industry in a forum where they can share information on topics important to the energy industry.
Throughout his time at Technip, Paul has prided himself on his ability to still find a balance between his work and home life. “My greatest achievement is to have worked in some amazing countries with amazing people, all for one company,” he said. “Finding the balance between work and lifestyle is the key to longevity, energy, and staying connected.”
When not working, Paul enjoys water-based activities, particularly kayaking and sailing, and loves being surrounded by nature with his wife and two sons.
He said a drive to leave behind a better world than the one he was born into has kept him motivated over the years. “We have done some amazing things, but also some not-so-good things,” he said. “I am truly inspired by my colleagues’ attitudes toward innovation and using the skills and experience they have to make the future brighter. The opportunity to create a sustainable and ethical energy industry is a great motivation.”
