Shamir Mohammed, Technical Team Leader at Synergy
This month, we are delighted to feature Shamir Mohammed, Technical Team Leader at Synergy, as our Member Under the Microscope. Shamir recently joined Energy Club WA and is eager to connect, share insights and contribute to our vibrant community.
"I joined Energy Club WA to connect with like-minded industry leaders and professionals, share and build a solid knowledge base, and collaborate on shaping a pragmatic path toward a sustainable energy future for Western Australia,” he said.
With more than 17 years of global experience in the energy sector, Shamir brings a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to his work. At Synergy, he leads Operations & Maintenance teams for gas generation assets at Kwinana Power Station, ensuring safe, reliable performance across multiple sites. “My current focus is on optimising gas generation dispatch while enabling a seamless coexistence with renewable assets in WA. Driving a practical transition to sustainable energy is a challenge I embrace,” Shamir shares.
His career has taken him across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, with senior roles at Alinta Energy, AGL Energy and Solar Turbines/Brunei Shell Petroleum. Along the way, he has managed multi-million-dollar budgets, championed innovation in operations and maintenance, and earned recognition for his leadership,
including a Fellowship with Engineers Australia.
“I’m passionate about building high-performing teams through mentorship, transparent communication and proactive engagement,
helping people achieve their best,” he says.
Outside of work, Shamir is active in charitable organisations, enjoys surfing, martial arts and dancing, and loves to travel, especially to places with great surf.
He is also a mentor for Engineers Australia and Deakin University and supports visa status refugee and asylum seeker initiatives, reflecting his commitment
to giving back to the community.
“Helping others find their path and strengthening our industry through mentoring is incredibly rewarding,” he adds.
When asked what keeps him motivated, Shamir shares: “The dynamic nature of energy markets and the interplay between economics in developed
and developing countries… there’s always something new to learn.”
Among his proudest achievements are mentoring visa status asylum seekers and refugees, advising governing bodies on best practices,
and assisting remote communities in the Andes.
