Georgina Maslen was awarded the Energy Club WA's Member of the Year for 2024. Georgina, a Senior Category and Contract Specialist at Fortescue, has been a valuable part of the community for more than half a decade.
Starting as a lawyer, Georgina has worked in the resources sector since graduating from university. She credits the Energy Club WA with helping her build an industry network.
"The initial network I built in energy was largely a result of my engagement with the WA Energy Club, and what led me to my first role at an energy consultancy, through to where I am now, in a role that works across both energy and mining," Georgina, who is involved in contracts across the energy and resources sector, reflected.
"I am extremely proud to be a part of such a crucial part of the national economy, engaging with players across mining, oil and gas, and renewable energy," she shared.
Feeling fortunate to be part of the energy industry and the WA Energy Club, Georgina says, "Belief in both of these is a strong motivator for me in giving back, as well as personal growth and playing my part in strengthening our community."
Georgina identifies with the complexity of the energy industry, and believes many people are unaware of its impact on their daily lives, especially the role of affordable and reliable energy. She hopes to change the negative public perception through education.
“We are so fortunate in Australia to have the opportunities that we do, largely through access to affordable and reliable energy. I think negative public perception is a significant challenge for the industry, and one I would like to see change through education.”
"Winning this award means a lot to me, and I feel humbled to have been chosen this past year,” Georgina said.
Ultimately, it is the Club's focus on community and connections that Georgina values the most.
"The Energy Club WA works hard to create a positive, supportive community of engaged members from all areas of the Energy sector, combining networking opportunities with topical presentations and discussions."
Congratulations to Georgina for her outstanding contributions. We are grateful to have her as a part of our community.
