GreenTech Hub to Power WA’s Clean Energy Future
In a $4 million initiative led by Curtin University, Western Australia has launched the GreenTech Hub, located in Perth.
The stand-alone facility forms part of the $40 million Lower Carbon Grants Program, funded through a partnership between the WA State Government and the Chevron-operated Gorgon Joint Venture. This joint venture includes major global energy players such as ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas, and JERA.
The Hub’s initial focus is on advanced energy storage solutions, particularly those that can support remote and off-grid communities. These technologies are essential to reducing fossil fuel reliance and enabling a more resilient and sustainable energy future for Western Australia.
WA’s Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said, “Successfully developing advanced energy storage systems could reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and provide alternative power solutions, particularly in remote areas, while also creating a new energy industry.
“With Western Australia committed to getting out of coal faster than any other State, it is fitting that the GreenTech Hub's first challenge is working to find the energy answers of the future.”
Beyond its technical focus, the GreenTech Hub plays a strategic role in fostering collaboration across sectors. It supports early-stage ventures through
Curtin’s Accelerate Program and acts as a connector for startups, research teams, and industry partners seeking capital, opportunities, andcommercialisation pathways.
The goal is to localise technology development and help WA retain more value from its abundant renewable resources, including solar, wind, and critical minerals.
With the support of key government and industry, the GreenTech Hub has the potential to assist in shaping the future of energy in Australia.
