Charge Up grants boost for EV charging infrastructure
The State Government through Energy Policy WA has announced a new round of grants to cover up to half the cost of installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The Charge Up Electric Vehicle Charging Grants target not for-profit organisations, small and medium businesses, and local government authorities.
The funding includes AC chargers and faster DC chargers ranging from 7kW to 350kW.
More than $4.5 million of grant funding has been
approved to assist eligible organisations, businesses, and
local governments to install 611 chargers in 341 locations throughout the State.
The average grant awarded was $16,9992, with the
maximum grant awarded being $191,114.
The Charge Up Electric Vehicle Charging Grants will fund:
- 50 per cent of the purchase cost of up to four EV
chargers (7kW to 350kW) per site, for up to five sites. - 50 per cent of EV charger installation costs, with caps
of $5,000 in the Greater Perth area and $10,000 for
regional and remote areas where the largest charger is less than 150kW. - 50 per cent of EV charger installation costs, with caps of $10,000 in the
Greater Perth area and $20,000 for regional and remote areas where the largest charger is 150kW or larger. - 50 per cent of the electricity network costs, with caps of $100,000 for Western Power costs and $150,000 for Horizon Power costs.
- 75 per cent of the cost of a two-year software subscription.
The grants are designed to maximise opportunities for daytime EV charging, promote off-peak EV charging, support the conversion of fleets to EVs and,
over time, stimulate a second-hand EV market.
EV owners will be able to reduce their carbon emissions by charging during the day, when the electricity grid is powered by the greatest share of clean solar energy.
Grant applications opened on October 8 and close on June 30, 2025.
