Shannon Murphy, Epigroup – Sales & Business Development Manager
Stepping into the energy industry just three years ago, Shannon Murphy uses her range of experience and willingness to achieve, to excel in her career and personal life.
Her career history is varied; however, she has primarily been involved in adult education and managing sales and enrolment teams for registered training organisations.
Shannon is the Sales and Business Development Manager at Epigroup, a company providing specialised solutions to work health and safety problems faced by energy, mining, defence, and construction organisations.
Her role involves communicating with potential clients to understand their requirements and find answers to their WHS issues.
Whilst in the role, Shannon has met with clients to gain an understanding of their challenges and provide bespoke solutions for scopes such as psychosocial risk programs, Virtual Reality three-dimensional worlds for a spot-the-hazards training scenario and developed interesting and unique safety cases among so much more.
As well as the varied workload Shannon enjoys the company culture. “We have a very strong community culture at Epigroup which really sits within my values,” she said.
Shannon joined the Energy Club WA in July 2023 and has found after just one year that it brings value in the people she meets and their unique experiences.
“I really enjoy meeting a diverse range of people who have elite knowledge that are always willing to share with others,” she said.
Her motivation comes from the people around her. “I try to surround myself with people that challenge me and help me grow as a friend, mother, colleague and overall person.”
Shannon credits those around her as well as her upbringing for her strong mindset on perseverance believing that “failure is just a blip in the process to keep trying”.
“I am extremely motivated by those around me and love learning new things,” she said, acknowledging the impact her community has on all aspects of her life.
“I have done a triathlon even though I am not remotely keen on exercise, just to see if I could; that was a proud moment”.
She also manages to find time for her ongoing community involvement, “I've been on a not-for-profit theatre committee for eight years now,” and she aims to
perform in one or two plays a year.
However, she places her role as a mother to two young children as her highest achievement. “I think being able to excel at work in a full-time role and still be
a mother and everything that goes along with that, with no family support is a huge achievement,” she said.
